Abhishek Bachchan

Rating:

Born: February 1976

Being born into possibly Bollywood's leading family is no mean feat in itself. But Abhishek Bachchan has undoubtedly defined his own niche in Bollywood. Born February 5, 1976, Abhishek began his movie career with J.P. Dutta's moderately successful Refugee opposite Kareena Kapoor in 2000. The next four years saw a string of movies for Abhishek, none which shook the box office dramatically for him. It was 2004 that heralded the real actor in Abhishek with Mani Ratnam's Yuva. The same year, he starred in Dhoom which was his first major hit. In 2005, Abhishek was on a roll with four consecutive hits, Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Dus and Bluffmaster. In fact, he won his second Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for Sarkar. 2006's first release for Abhishek, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, saw him hold his own against Shahrukh Khan. Umrao Jaan did nothing more than kickstart rumours about him and Aishwarya Rai being together. His third release Dhoom 2, a sequel to his first hit Dhoom did very well at the box office, but like in the first film, the villain of each film was remembered more. Finally 2007's Guru earned Abhishek his first solo hit and plenty acclaim for his performance. His next release Jhoom Barabar Jhoom did better overseas especially in the UK, but mixed reviews everywhere else. This was also the year that Abhishek married Aishwarya Rai. In the summer of 2008, Abhishek Bachchan joined his father Amitabh Bachchan, wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan along with Preity Zinta, Ritesh Deshmukh and Madhuri Dixit on the Unforgettable World Tour, covering the USA, Canada, London, and Trinidad.
