Amitabh Bachchan was born to the famous Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. He has been on many fame rampages at different periods in Hindi cinema. His first streak was during the 70s when he was conferred the name of angry young man of Hindi cinema. He is married to Jaya Bhaduri and has two kids - Abhishek and Shweta. Abhishek, now a renowned Bollywood star, has recently tied the knot with reigning queen of Hindi cinema Aishwarya Rai. Amitabh's career started in 1969 with Saat Hindustani for which he got a National Award. He continued to do good films but never quite achieved the popularity and status enjoyed by other more successful stars of those times. His popularity rocketed sky wards with his 1973 film Zanjeer and subsequently every coming movie solidified the foundation. His other famous films include Sholay, Anand, Kabhi Kabhie, Amar Akbar Anthony, Silsila, Khuda Gawah among numerous others. While, shooting for the film Coolie, he received near a fatal injury while doing a fight scene instead of using a double for the sequence. Millions prayed and the nation came to a standstill to wish for Amitabh's Health. All prayers were answered and Amitabh was back in no time - delivering back to back hits. Amitabh, also known as Amitji, joined politics in 1984 and continued till 1987. He is an old friend and confidante of prominent politician Amar Singh. Though, extremely successful during the 70s and 80s, the 90s saw Amitabh Bachchan in quite a crisis. This included a financial crisis to the extent of declaration of Bankruptcy. This period also saw the launch of his company ABCL which suffered huge losses. Came 2000 and Amitabh Bachchan's come back to the screen after going through a crisis. He hosted the Indian adaptation of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Ever since, he has performed in numerous films and his die hard fans say that he just doesn't get old. Due to its unique baritone his is the most easily identified voice in all of India. He stays in his houses in Mumbai, named Jalsa and Prateeksha.
