GUDGUDEE is by no means a perfect film yet it is passable as an adult comedy. The movie revolves around Ajay Prasad (ANUPAM KHER), a lightheaded buisnessman who has everything, a loving wife, a secure job, except a reputation as a heartbreaker. What I mean by this is that Ajay is a man who wants more then anything to be a stud. He tells tales about women lusting after and craving him. The sad part is that he innocently believes that women really are turned on by the balding, clutzy, and really quite air headed man that he is. The plot thickens when Ajay recieves an invitation to attend a wedding in Mumbai. His wife cannot go for she has to look after their son and see to his basic needs. So Ajay Prasad is off to Mumbai alone. When he arrives in Mumbai, he finds that thee hosts of the wedding have a nice flat ready for him in a nearby apartment complex. It turns out that his flat is a nice one with air conditioning, a stereo system etc. It is then that he meets his neighbor. The neighbor turns out to be a sexy young starlet (PRATIBHA SINHA) trying to get launced into fame and fortune. Right from the start, Ajay believes that she is in love with him. What Ajay doesnt know, however, is that she is toying with him for the use of his nice air conditioned flat, since it can get quite hot in Mumbai when one doesn´t have the proper cooling system. The plot then revolves around sudden comic situations that arrive throughout Ajay´s stay in Mumbai with his sexy young neighbor and with his infatuation with her.
GUDGUDEE has a very funny plot that sadly enough begins to sag in the middle. The movie runs purely on the acting of Anupam Kher and the dazzling Pratibha. She is truley spectacular and has a flair for comedy. She also looks very beautiful throughout the film. Anupam is excellent, as usual and performs very well indeed as an naive and idiotic buisnessman. Jugal Hansraj gives a nice portrayal as a struggling singer who is madly inlove with Pratibha. Bappi Lahiri´s music is very nice. Some musibal gems of the movie are "HAR PAL CHAHE MEA DIL" and "BIKHIRI HUI CHANDINI". The "MAIN TO PRITAM KO" sequence is very funny. The plot, however, fails to diliver in the second half and barely recovers in the films ending. It is the downfall of the movie. Basu Chaterjee, who had such hits as "Piya Ka Ghar" and "Khatta Meeta" with his outstanding direction, is not as good in this movie. This film is watchable for its performances and music.
